Orthopedic Problems in Pets

Pets can have genetic orthopedic problems, or they can develop a condition from an injury or from aging. Certain dog breeds are more prone to bone and joint problems. Some of the most common orthopedic issues in pets are hip dysplasia, a luxating patella, torn ligaments, and osteoarthritis. If you notice that your pet is avoiding walking or is limping, bring it to our animal clinic.

Treatment for Orthopedic Problems

At All Care Animal Clinic, we offer a variety of treatment options for pet orthopedic problems based on your pet’s condition and pain level. Our team will first diagnose your pet to see what is causing it pain. We will perform a physical examination to look at your pet’s movement. We may also use X-rays and blood tests to rule out other medical issues. Once we know what is causing your pet pain, we can create a treatment plan.

There are several pain medications that can be administered to your pet to relieve aches from bone and joint problems. We also offer physical therapy, which relieves pain, reduces inflammation, and helps restore your pet’s natural movements. In more severe cases of orthopedic problems, your pet may need surgery.

Orthopedic Pet Surgery

There are several surgical procedures that our veterinarian can perform on your pet to help with bone, joint, and spine problems. If your pet’s case is severe, we may recommend these procedures. We can discuss with you beforehand everything you need to know about the surgery and recovery. We might give you medications and dressings for your pet. Sometimes, physical therapy can be helpful during the recovery period as well. Our team of experts will be there for you and your pet before, during, and after surgery.
