FAQS About Pet Orthopedic Problems

Pets experience similar orthopedic issues as humans do. Make sure to seek veterinary treatment for your pets if they experience these injuries to promote healing and prevent pain. Talk to our veterinarian at All Care Animal Clinic in West Palm Beach to learn more.

Orthopedic Problems

The most common issues and orthopedic problems for pets are:

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip dysplasia is very common among dogs, particularly larger breeds like shepherds and labs. It is a genetic condition that is often treated with medication and that frequently leads to arthritis.

  • Torn Ligaments

Torn ligaments in knees are another common orthopedic problem that is treated with surgery, similar to humans.

  • Patella Luxation

The patella, or kneecap, can slip out of place causing luxation and requiring veterinary intervention. Many different breeds are afflicted with this common orthopedic condition.

  • Disc Disease

Disc disease is common, especially among poodles, spaniels, Lhasa apsos, and dachshunds. Smaller breeds often have disc disease in their necks, while larger dogs may experience it in their backs.
